Aged Care Access Initiative (ACAI)
The new Aged Care Access Initiative (ACAI) commenced in July 2008 and aims to improve access to general practice and allied health services for residents of aged care facilities within the Goldfields Esperance region.
The ACAI has two components;
-
- Incentive payments through the Practice Incentives Program to encourage General Practitioners to provide more services in residential aged care facilities - This component is administrated through Medicare Australia
- Payments for clinical care provided by allied health professionals to residential aged care facilities where these services are not currently covered by Medicare or other government funding arrangements. The Goldfields Esperance GP Network identifies, based on an annual needs assessment, allied health shortfalls within the region and facilitates the clinical services required by the individual residential aged care facilities. Current allied health services provided (either on an individual or group basis) include: Dietetics, Podiatry, Occupation Therapy, Speech Pathology and Physiotherapy
