Small Group Learning

These education events are run both in Esperance and Kalgoorlie.

Both groups offer an informal interactive learning opportunity for GPs to discuss localised unusual clinical cases. Through peer review, the group aim to increase knowledge, skills and cohesiveness between GPs.

The obstetric small learning group is run by an eminent GP/Obstetrician, and the groups meet monthly over a casual breakfast.

Grand Rounds

The core aim of the Grand Round series is ‘peer review’ of unusual, difficult or complicated clinical cases seen through the General Practices of Kalgoorlie.  The Grand Round series provides the opportunity to finding local solutions or initiatives to local problems with a rural and remote context with an overarching aim of providing improved patient care and safety.

The Grand Round also addresses ‘peer-support’ as there is also a collaborative involvement of General Practitioners, GP Registrars, Surgeons, Physicians, Specialists, Junior Doctors and Medical Students.  The non-classroom approach encourages interactive participation and exchange of ideas in order to foster a mutually supportive and cohesive medical community, which again to will provide the opportunity to enhance patient care and safety.

Each Grand Round Series will consist of a short case (25 min + 5 min for Q&A) and long case presentation (45-50 min plus 5-10 min for Q&A), totalling 1.5 hours per session.  The short case may include some interest results or learning points, whilst the long case will follow an interesting diagnostic pathway and maybe involve a number of medical practitioners and/or possible allied health service providers.
